This is a unique support group for people with a family history of HD who do not yet have symptoms of the disease. We refer to these people as "at-risk", "asymptomatic", or "presymptomatic". Since HD carries a 50% risk of inheritence, people who are "at-risk" may or may not know their own status. For those who have tested positive, many will not have symptoms for several years. This group brings these people together for discussion led by HDSA social worker Emily Zivin, and Northwestern HD Clinic Director and Neurologist Dr. Danny Bega. Topics discussed are dictated by the group, but include genetic testing, family planning, social issues related to HD, research in HD, and more. The group meets once every other month.
